Easter Sunday

The day of joy is upon us, thanks be to God! We look for the risen Christ today and to often we have trouble finding Him. "Most High, glorious God, enlighten the shadows of my heart, and grant me a right faith, a certain hope and perfect charity, sense and understanding, Lord, so that I may accomplish your holy and true command.  Amen." OSTENSION OF THE HOLY SHROUD

3rd Station of the cross

http://www.vatican.va/news_services/liturgy/documents/ns_lit_doc_via-crucis_en.html  "The  Way of the Cross , as we understand the term today, dates to the late Middle Ages. Saint Bernard of Clairvaux (+ 1153), Saint Francis of Assisi (+ 1226) and Saint Bonaventure of Bagnoregio (+ 1274), with their loving, contemplative devotion, prepared the ground on which the devout practice was to develop." Vaticana  PIERO MARINI Titular Archbishop of Martirano Master of the Liturgical Celebrations of the Supreme Pontiff. Jesus falls the 3rd time this is one of the times where human frailty shows itself, that weakness is not something to be ashamed of and if Jesus falls we can fall too, it doesn't matter because Jesus teaches us that there is a difference between the human and divine.

Station 2 Jesus takes up his Cross

Image
It is never easy to accept the task of carrying ones cross, there are many allegories that can be made about this event and I believe Jesus teaching is not about the glory of suffering or martyrdom but humility, the giving up of our pride in relativism. There is far more subtle things happening in life that we do not understand and thinking we can protect ourselves from death or suffering, it is not something in our total control. Prayer and accepting that God is the master of destinies is one part of the answer but there are many stations of Cross. Let us try and surrender our pride in security.

Lutheran effects on counter reformation

"Their foundation by Ignatius Loyola in 1540 is usually seen as a key moment in the Counter-Reformation, the Catholic fight-back after Martin Luther’s break with Rome that means we still have a papacy five centuries later. The quasi-military tone of some of Loyola’s directives to his followers, set out in his Spiritual Exercises, has caused Jesuits to be dubbed “papal stormtroopers”, “God’s marines” or, in the words of one French church historian, “new athletes to combat God’s enemies”. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/the-pope/9930845/Pope-Francis-a-new-broom-sweeps-into-the-Vatican.html The past Lutheran faith I have somehow ties into my Catholic faith and I believe it somehow has something to do with the Fr Norris diaries, providence?

1st Station of the Cross

Image
http://www.vatican.va/news_services/liturgy/2013/documents/ns_lit_doc_20130329_via-crucis_en.html The Stations of the Cross are one of the many great contemplations and over Easter and at the stages of our lives we reflect on the way of Jesus and how we relate to Him on his Passion. By doing this meditation I think I have made no progress and I can put myself in the Garden when sweating blood which is the old 1st Station, now I think I changed and moved on to the the condemnation of Jesus.

The Passover

Image
Today's reading from the Catholic Mass Calendar reminds us of the important events that Jesus celebrates the feast of the Unleavened Bread, the Passover meal. We are minded that Judas was an Apostle of Jesus and even though sin and betrayal are often very close to those people who are guiltless it does not bring anything but shame to the guilty. Jesus teaches the truth may not be known at the time but Gods will is often a mystery to us, which explains the chaos that so frequently plagues us all.

Cambodians find statue of Our Lady of Lourdes thrown in river decades ago :: Catholic News Agency (CNA) VIDEO MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS POPE BENEDICT XVI TO THE CATHOLIC CHURCH OF CAMBODIA ON THE OCCASION OF THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE  OF THE SECOND VATICAN COUNCIL [PHNOM PENH, 5-7 JANUARY 2013] The unity of peace operates within the Holy Spirits realm because without the faith of knowing eternal life is a realty and the existence of the human soul death and suffering cannot be turned into mercy. And this is the message of Benedict regarding the horror at Phnom Penh mercy can be shown to our enemies as forgiveness and witness the truth of Jesus Christ's teaching.

Messages from Benedict and Francis to the new Archbishop

MESSAGE OF HIS HOLINESS BENEDICT XVI  TO THE MOST REVEREND AND RIGHT HONOURABLE JUSTIN WELBY ARCHBISHOP OF CANTERBURY ON THE OCCASION OF THE CONFIRMATION OF ELECTION To the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby Archbishop of Canterbury In our prayers for you we always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, for we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love that you have for all the saints, because of the hope laid up for you in heaven  ( Col  1:3) I understand now the benefit of Benedict 's resignation and how emeritus clergy have an important diplomatic role to carry out in the mission of fraternal brother and sisterhood. By Benedicts message we see a stronger messenger in acknowledging the bonds of affection between Anglicans and Catholics.

AUDIENCE WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF THE CHURCHES AND ECCLESIAL COMMUNITIES AND OF THE DIFFERENT RELIGIONS ADDRESS OF THE HOLY FATHER POPE FRANCIS Clementine Hall Wednesday, 20 March 2013 [ Video ]   "Yesterday morning, during   Holy Mass , through you I felt the spiritual presence of the communities which you represent. In this expression of faith, it seemed that we were experiencing all the more urgently the prayer for unity between believers in Christ and at the same time seeing prefigured in some way its full realization, which depends on God’s plan and our own faithful cooperation." Pope Francis certainly has the way of identifying the common good in as all no matter what differences we have regarding our community beliefs, in his last paragraph he even notes the good will of the atheist.  Since I was Bapisted a Lutheran I understand this common ecclesiastical message and being Confirmed Catholic I understand the different levels of faith and

Fr James Norris The Beginning of the Diary of Fr James Norris Translated from his original eight handwritten note books. A.M.D.G. I came from God, I belong to God, I am destined for God. All things outside myself are creatures for my use, lent to me by God to help me attain my salvation, outside my soul. I must be detached from these creatures, not making a creature an end in itself. That is sin, an abuse of creation. One soul. One innings. One death. Heaven or Hell for eternity. The 3 important things to consider. 1. What are my passions? 2. What is the will of God for me? 3. Think of the salvation of my soul? this continues for 256 pages

"Please, I would like to ask all those who have positions of responsibility in economic, political and social life, and all men and women of goodwill: let us be “protectors” of creation, protectors of God’s plan inscribed in nature, protectors of one another and of the environment. Let us not allow omens of destruction and death to accompany the advance of this world! But to be “protectors”, we also have to keep watch over ourselves! Let us not forget that hatred, envy and pride defile our lives! Being protectors, then, also means keeping watch over our emotions, over our hearts, because they are the seat of good and evil intentions: intentions that build up and tear down! We must not be afraid of goodness or even tenderness!" Pope Francis What a great message of tenderness and how to care for the planet and other people if we only had that much love! The task is great of course and the teaching is true. Doctrine as Pope Francis reminds us of our duty which is not only trad
