Audience with the Catechists on the occasion of the Year of the Faith

In 1941 Fr. James Norris was ‘called’ by God to enter the Holy Cross Seminary, Essedon, Australia and after Ordination went to work in Japan until retirement, returning to Rotorua his hometown in 2004.  After a few meetings to talk about the faith, Fr Norris handed on his diary to Mark Baird in 2004 and after studying his dairy I decided to type up his notes and study his work because I believe it has great merit for the average person and the Catholic Church and it is our hope to eventually form a confraternity with the aim of serving the Church. This submission is called Sequilla Christi. Following Christ. The question is; how best to propagate this little branch of the faith, while keeping the diary accurate to the words and desire of Fr Norris and remaining in full communion with the Pope? We believe God was present in the passing on of Fr Norris’ diary in that action and remains in mediation to touch the lives of many other people for the greater glory of God. We live in the Church and the world, alive for God.

Fr Norris contemplations on St Ignatius spiritual exercises.

9-23 Padre Pio | Daily Mass

A contemplation from Fr Norris mitigated St Ignatius Spiritual exercises.

Can any of you by worrying add a single moment to your life-span?
Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin.

Thursday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time

Thursday of the Twenty-fourth Week in Ordinary Time"What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it? Fr Norris. James. Opus in Fides. Unpublished diary. 1941.

Fr Norris spiritual exercise

Remember that God didn’t strike you dead when you committed your first mortal sin.
Nor any subsequent sins through his goodness and love for you. Concerning your body and it’s facilities it does not belong to you so don’t abuse it. After all that is only holiness and respect and reverence for the owner, which is etiquette. “Where thy treasure is there will thy heart be.” If your treasure is some creature your heart will be there, it won’t be with God and He doesn’t want a divided love. Therefore get rid of the creature. Purge your soul. Even in the smallest details, see what inordinate affections you have. Life is a fight against the world the devil and the flesh. To win this fight we must mortify ourselves by curbing these, give them a blow occasionally, a knock back to keep them in their place- penance. To show how much God hated sin He ordained that His own Mother should be pure and immaculate. She was not stained even by original sin. Fr Norris. James. Opus in Fides. Unpublished diary. 1941.

(1) The Fr Jim Norris study group  Beatification of “Cura Brochero” (José Gabriel Brochero), Our call from God centers on an event that took place outside St Michael’s Church in Rotorua in 2004.  We want to follow this process of encounter so that [i]“we may see the reality around us in the light of his providence, judge it according to Jesus Christ, Way, Truth and Life, and act from the Church, the Mystical Body of Christ and universal Sacrament of salvation, in spreading the kingdom of God, which is sown on this earth and fully bears fruit in Heaven.” (Benedict XVI. Aparecida, Document. 2007). We believe this event is a ‘call’ and the handing on of the Fr Norris work.

Wednesday of the Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time

Wednesday of the Twenty-third Week in Ordinary Time
Spiritual reading: St. Luke 15: 1-24
So to them he addressed this parable.

"What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it?

And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy

and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbours and says to them, 'Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.'

Sequela christi

In the original 8 handwritten notebooks we have developed a catechetical study to help people who are attracted to this new charism. There are four parts; submission  (Sequela Christi), spiritual diary (Opus in fides), and rule (catechetical directory) and a house (St Josephs’ house of providence). The question is; how best to propagate this little branch of the faith, while keeping the diary accurate to the words and desire of Fr Norris and remaining in full communion with the Pope? We believe God was present in the passing on of Fr Norris’ diary and that action and remains in mediation to touch the lives of many other people for the greater glory of God. We live in the Church and the world, alive for God.
